Abu Dhabi Launches UAE’s First Free Beach for the Visually Impaired
Corniche beach offers free access and Braille-equipped facilities for the visually impaired and families

Abu Dhabi Sets Benchmark with UAE’s First Accessible Beach for the Visually Impaired
Abu Dhabi has taken a significant step towards inclusive living by opening the UAE’s first dedicated beach for the blind and their families. Located on the beautiful Corniche near Gate 3, this 1,000 square metre beach space is not only a place of relaxation, but also a symbol of community, dignity and accessibility.
Launched in partnership with the Zayed High Commission for Empowered People, this groundbreaking project supports the objectives of the 2025 Community Year. It demonstrates Abu Dhabi’s commitment to developing public spaces that accept and accommodate people with diverse abilities, ensuring they feel fully included and included.
The beach has been thoughtfully designed to meet the unique needs of visually impaired people. Special transportation services and clearly marked pathways have been developed to assist visitors in navigating the area safely. Braille signage and instructional boards are installed to guide users on swimming safety procedures, while guided walking paths with tactile ropes and sound cues make it easier to reach the water independently. A secured swim zone is constantly monitored by trained lifeguards to ensure visitor safety. Accessible visitor guides in Braille offer a complete and independent beach experience. On-site medical support, including a dedicated nurse, and security teams are available to provide assistance as needed.
The World Disabled Persons’ Association, in recognition of its inclusive and accessible design, has formally named the site a “Disability-Friendly Beach.”
In addition to these accessible features, the beach has a number of practical amenities. Entry is free for the able-bodied and one guest. Floating beach chairs make it possible to enjoy the ocean in comfort. Wide, smooth walkways make it easy for the disability and the older people to get around. Free water stations are provided to keep guests hydrated, and restrooms are fully accessible. For optimal convenience, designated parking spaces are located near the entrance, and free shuttle transportation to and from the beach is provided.
The beach is open daily from 6 a.m. to midnight, with swimming permitted until sunset. This extended schedule gives visitors the flexibility to enjoy the space at their own pace.
More than just a beach, the project is a blueprint for the public spaces of the future – a testament to Abu Dhabi’s vision of inclusivity and empathy. By removing barriers and improving accessibility, the city shows how communities thrive when everyone is welcomed, respected, and empowered.
