UAE Cabinet Endorses International AI Policy, Strengthening Global Leadership
ABU DHABI – The UAE Cabinet, chaired by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, has endorsed the country’s official position on Artificial Intelligence (AI) policy internationally.
The policy, which was created in tandem by the UAE’s comprehensive foreign policy framework’s offices of the minister of state for artificial intelligence, digital economy, and remote work applications and the assistant minister of state for advanced science and technology, is a strategic move.
To tackle the complex challenges presented by AI on the global stage.
Omar Sultan Al Olama, Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy and Remote Work Applications, stressed that the UAE government plays a key role in shaping global AI governance frameworks and international policies. Responsible AI Department.
“The UAE has become a significant player in the global governance of artificial intelligence, actively contributing to international policy debates and helping to define the standards and framework that will shape the future of AI,” said Al Olama.
He stated that the goal of the strategy is to make the United Arab Emirates the leader in AI globally and to guarantee that technical advancements are used to benefit the welfare of society.
Adopting such laws, according to Omran Sharaf, Assistant Minister of State for Advanced Science and Technology, would strengthen the UAE’s standing as a pioneer in the creation and application of AI while boosting confidence among its allies.
Sharaf added, “By aligning the country’s foreign policy with global artificial intelligence standards, we are enabling private companies, research institutions and other local stakeholders to tackle the challenges of artificial intelligence internationally.”
The AI Policy is built on six core principles: progress, collaboration, community, ethics, sustainability and security, demonstrating a commitment to ensure that AI development in the UAE is aligned with ethical, social and environmental priorities.
In addition, the policy seeks to use AI to drive economic diversification and innovation, while encouraging the development of high-impact technology solutions.
The UAE’s foreign policy stance on AI includes participating in international AI forums to shape the development and use of this technology through future standards and guidelines; Supporting transparency and built-in checkpoints within AI tools to help governments enforce ethical standards and enforce accountability measures; and supporting the establishment of international alliances to manage, protect and develop AI systems.
Furthermore supporting the formation of international coalitions aimed at overseeing, safeguarding, and promoting artificial intelligence (AI) systems; endorsing the execution of global guidelines that impose responsibility on nations producing AI instruments capable of causing harm or instability while guaranteeing data security, privacy protection, and AI security; collaborates on research and development projects with the goal of advancing peace and stability both locally and worldwide, hence encouraging the appropriate use of AI applications.
