Philippine Missions in UAE Closed from August 23 to 26 for National Holidays

Philippine cruises in the UAE will be closed for four days – August 23 to 26 – on Friday and the following Monday, observing two Philippine national holidays.

August 23 (Friday) was declared a national non-working holiday in the Philippines in observance of Ninoy Aquino Day; August 26 (Monday) is National Veterans Day. Saturday and Sunday (August 24 and 25) are typical weekends in the UAE.

Ninoy Aquino Day is a national unemployment holiday observed annually on August 21 in the Philippines to commemorate the assassination of former Senator Benino ‘Ninoy’ Aquino Jr. The current President of the Philippines.

Aquino’s wife, Corazon Aquino, later became the 11th President of the Philippines; and their son Noynoy Aquino became the 15th President. Ninoy was assassinated on August 21, 1983 on the tarmac of Manila International Airport, which was eventually named Ninoy Aquino International Airport in his honor.
