India Enhances Visa Facilities to Boost Tourism

India is taking significant steps to boost its tourism sector by making travel more accessible and appealing to international visitors. In a recent announcement, Union Minister for Tourism and Culture, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, unveiled enhancements to the country’s visa facilities, a move aimed at attracting more tourists and facilitating easier entry into the nation.

Visa-on-Arrival Facility for Japan, South Korea, and UAE

In a strategic decision to bolster international tourism, the Indian government has introduced the Visa-on-Arrival facility for nationals from Japan, South Korea, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). This development allows visitors from these countries to obtain their visas upon arrival in India, significantly simplifying the travel process. The Visa-on-Arrival is available for purposes such as tourism, business, conferences, and medical visits, offering flexibility and convenience to travelers.

Eligible visitors can enjoy a stay of up to 60 days with the provision of double entry, which is particularly beneficial for business travelers and tourists who may need to leave and re-enter the country within the permitted period. This initiative, available at six designated airports across India, underscores the country’s commitment to welcoming international visitors and fostering strong ties with Japan, South Korea, and the UAE.

Expansion of the e-Visa Facility

In addition to the Visa-on-Arrival, the Indian Ministry of Tourism has expanded the e-Visa facility, making it accessible to nationals of 167 countries. Developing Tourism Infrastructure: The Swadesh Darshan Scheme

The Swadesh Darshan scheme, launched in 2014-15, is a key initiative aimed at developing tourism infrastructure across India. This scheme provides financial assistance to State Governments, Union Territory Administrations, and Central Agencies to develop thematic tourism circuits. Since its inception, the Swadesh Darshan scheme has sanctioned 76 projects with a total revised budget of Rs 5,287.90 crore, of which Rs 4,944.47 crore have already been released.
