Ten UAE-Backed Speech Therapy Centres Open in Egypt

New Facilities Support 643 Young People with Disabilities

In a remarkable initiative, ten new speech therapy centres have been launched across Egypt, providing critical support to 643 young individuals with disabilities. This significant development is the result of a collaborative effort between the UAE’s Zayed Higher Organisation for People of Determination (ZHO) and Egypt’s Ministry of Youth and Sports, as reported by state news agency Wam.

Expansion of Speech Therapy Services

The newly inaugurated centres are spread across six key governorates in Egypt, strategically positioned to enhance the accessibility of speech therapy services throughout the country. This project represents a major step in overhauling Egypt’s network of speech therapy centres. The partnership between ZHO and the Ministry of Youth and Sports, which began with an agreement in November, is focused on revitalizing and expanding the facilities available to those in need.

Equipped with cutting-edge technology, these centres are designed to provide a range of essential services. They offer speech therapy sessions, skill development programs, support for individuals with learning difficulties, sensory integration therapy, and psychological assessments. This comprehensive approach aims to address various aspects of speech and communication challenges faced by young people.

Recruitment and Future Plans

To ensure the effective delivery of services, a recruitment drive is currently in progress to attract specialized staff for the new centres. The aim is to bring in skilled professionals who can provide high-quality care and support to the beneficiaries. In addition, the initiative plans to open 20 more centres before the year’s end as part of a broader expansion effort. This will further enhance the availability of speech therapy services and support across Egypt.

Aims and Objectives

The UAE-Egypt project is designed to cater to a wide range of conditions, including autism, delayed speech, speech disorders, hyperactivity disorders, attention deficit disorders, and learning difficulties. The centres will not only offer direct therapeutic services but also engage in awareness programmes and workshops. These educational initiatives are aimed at improving understanding and support for people with disabilities, as well as providing guidance and assistance to their families and guardians.

Impact and Statements

Dr. Ashraf Sobhy, Egypt’s Minister of Youth and Sport, highlighted the significance of this collaborative effort in improving the lives of young people with disabilities. He praised the work being done by ZHO and the Ministry of Youth and Sports, noting that it plays a crucial role in promoting social inclusion and enhancing the quality of life for those with disabilities.

Abdullah Al Humaidan, Secretary-General of ZHO, expressed his enthusiasm for the launch of the new centres. He described the initiative as a positive development in the ongoing efforts to improve care provisions and support for individuals with disabilities in the regions served by these facilities.

The ZHO, which is a leading humanitarian organization based in Abu Dhabi, is dedicated to providing a range of services for people with disabilities. This includes running centres and clubs that focus on rehabilitation, education, training, and counselling. Through this initiative, ZHO continues its mission to integrate people with disabilities into society and improve their conditions.

The opening of these ten new speech therapy centres in Egypt marks a significant milestone in the UAE-Egypt partnership, reflecting a shared commitment to supporting individuals with disabilities. By providing state-of-the-art facilities and comprehensive services, the project aims to make a meaningful impact on the lives of young people and their families. The expansion plans and ongoing efforts to recruit specialized staff underscore the dedication to ensuring that these valuable resources are available to those who need them most.
