UAE Calls for Temporary International Mission to Oversee Gaza’s Post-War Governance
UAE seeks global support to restore order and unite Gaza with the West Bank

UAE Proposes Temporary International Mission for Gaza Reconstruction
ABU DHABI: The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has called for the establishment of a temporary international mission to set the stage for a new governance framework in Gaza following the conclusion of the current conflict. This proposal aims to address the pressing need for reconstruction and stability in the war-torn region.
In a detailed statement issued by the UAE state news agency on Thursday, Reem bint Ebrahim Al-Hashimy, the UAE’s Minister of State for International Cooperation, underscored the critical role of the proposed international mission. She outlined that the mission’s primary objectives would be to restore law and order, manage the humanitarian crisis, and support the rebuilding efforts in post-war Gaza.
Al-Hashimy emphasized that the deployment of this mission should occur at the invitation of the Palestinian government. She stressed that the government must be led by “a credible and independent new prime minister” who can effectively address the needs of the Palestinian people and oversee the reconstruction of Gaza. The mission would serve as a cornerstone for reuniting Gaza with the occupied West Bank under a unified and legitimate Palestinian Authority.
The UAE Minister highlighted that simply returning to the status quo that existed before October 7 would not foster sustainable peace in Gaza. Achieving lasting peace is crucial for the stability of the entire region, and thus, a more comprehensive and proactive approach is necessary.
Al-Hashimy urged the United States to take a leading role in spearheading international efforts to rebuild Gaza. She called for U.S. leadership in advancing the two-state solution and facilitating essential Palestinian reforms, which are vital for the mission’s success. Her statement reflects a broader call for increased international involvement and cooperation to ensure that the mission achieves its objectives.
Additionally, Al-Hashimy stressed that Israel must adhere to international humanitarian law and fulfill its obligations. She pointed out that Gaza’s recovery would be hindered if the blockade continues or if the legitimate Palestinian Authority is prevented from performing its duties and managing its finances. Al-Hashimy also called for an end to the construction of illegal Israeli settlements and violence in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.
In her concluding remarks, Al-Hashimy reaffirmed the UAE’s unwavering support for international efforts aimed at achieving a two-state solution. She asserted that the resolution of the Gaza crisis extends beyond the immediate context of the Gaza Strip and requires a broad-based cooperative approach. Establishing lasting peace in the region is not only beneficial for the Middle East but also advantageous for the global community as a whole.
This call for a temporary international mission reflects the UAE’s commitment to playing a proactive role in addressing the complex challenges facing Gaza and supporting the broader pursuit of regional and global stability.
