UAE: 13-year-old Indian boy’s eyesight saved after cricket ball injury
A 13-year-old Indian expatriate child recently had his eyesight saved after he suffered a serious eye injury while playing cricket in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE).
The eighth-grader was hit in the left eye by a cricket ball while playing with friends in the parking lot next to his apartment, causing discomfort, redness and blurred vision.
Despite initial treatment with ice, the boy’s symptoms worsened, prompting his parents to seek treatment at Aster Clinic Bur Dubai.
Dr Gazala Hasan Mansuri, a specialist ophthalmologist at Aster Hospital Mankhool, conducted a comprehensive examination that revealed a large retinal tear (GRT) and multiple retinal breaks in the left eye.
Using cutting-edge diagnostic techniques including OCT and fundus photography, he diagnosed a 90-degree retinal tear and recommended laser surgery to repair the damage.
The young man was discharged the same day after successful laser surgery, which included eye drops, tear ducts and retinal breaks, with follow-ups confirming that he had fully recovered. Since then, his vision has returned to India.
Dr. Gazala stresses the importance of early diagnosis and timely intervention in treating eye injuries to prevent long-term problems.
