UAE Weather Task Force Unveils Plan for Heavy Rain and Thunder

Authorities Prep Infrastructure for Expected Rain, Less Severe Than April's Deluge

UAE Weather Task Force Prepares for Impending Storms, Implements Precautionary Measures

The National Weather Task Force has convened pivotal discussions to strategize and implement measures aimed at minimizing the impact of imminent storms expected to sweep across the Emirates on Wednesday and Thursday.

Comprising the Joint Weather and Tropical Assessment Team, which includes key stakeholders such as the National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority, the Ministry of Interior, and the National Centre of Meteorology, the task force has emphasized the paramount importance of prioritizing public safety during the anticipated adverse weather conditions. State news agency Wam reported on Tuesday night the urgent need to bolster preparedness efforts.

The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) has issued forecasts indicating heavy rain, thunder, lightning, and hail, with the weather disturbances anticipated to commence on Wednesday evening and persist across “most regions of the country” through Thursday. Despite the severity of these predictions, the NCM has provided some reassurance, suggesting that the forthcoming conditions are expected to be “less severe” compared to the historic deluge experienced last month, which resulted in widespread flooding, property damage, and significant disruptions to public transportation and flights.

Esraa Al-Naqbi, an NCM meteorologist, emphasized to The National that the current weather phenomenon is typical and does not parallel the intensity of the previous storm. Contrary to the multifaceted nature of the prior event, the upcoming weather pattern is anticipated to manifest as a single wave, starting on Wednesday evening and enveloping the entire country by Thursday. Classified as moderate in severity, this impending weather event contrasts with the previous storm, which was characterized as moderate to strong.

The Windy weather app forecasts continued rain and thunder in Abu Dhabi and Dubai from the early hours of Thursday into the evening, prompting preemptive action from authorities. In anticipation of the extreme weather conditions, distance learning has been mandated for all private schools in Dubai on Thursday and Friday. The Knowledge and Human Development Authority, Dubai’s private education regulator, issued a directive, underscoring the necessity of adapting to the unpredictable weather conditions.

Additionally, government schools across the UAE will also transition to remote learning for pupils on both anticipated storm days, reflecting a unified commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of students and educators amidst the expected adverse weather conditions.
