Nepal, Oman, Hong Kong, UAE Advances to ACC Premier Cup Semifinals

Babar Hayat's Explosive Innings Leads Hong Kong to Crucial Win Over Malaysia

Hong Kong’s journey in the tournament witnessed a remarkable turn of events as they secured a crucial victory over Malaysia in the final group match. Ayush Shukla’s exceptional bowling display, claiming three wickets for 24 runs, restricted Malaysia to a modest total of 140-7. However, the real spectacle unfolded during Hong Kong’s chase, where Babar Hayat’s explosive innings of 83 runs off just 35 balls propelled his team to victory in a mere 12.1 overs.

This pivotal win catapulted Hong Kong to the second position in the group standings, overtaking Qatar. Nevertheless, their progression to the next stage remained uncertain as they anxiously awaited the outcome of the match between Saudi Arabia and Nepal. Saudi Arabia’s relentless pursuit to displace Hong Kong created tension as they pushed Nepal hard in a rain-shortened encounter. Despite Abdul Waheed’s spirited 37 off 16 balls lifting Saudi Arabia to a total of 73-7 within the limited 8 overs, Nepal showcased resilience, securing victory with four balls to spare led by DS Airee and Gulshan Jha.

In Group B, the competition intensified among Kuwait, the UAE, and hosts Oman. While Oman seized the pole position with a convincing 9-wicket win over the top-ranked UAE, it was the UAE who secured the first semifinal berth by defeating Cambodia in a dominant display. Ayan Afzal Khan’s stellar bowling performance, claiming three wickets for just seven runs, was instrumental in Cambodia’s dismissal for a mere 76 runs. Captain Mohammad Waseem’s aggressive batting further propelled the UAE to victory in just 31 deliveries.

The UAE’s unassailable net run rate position ensured their semifinal berth, intensifying the final match between Oman and Kuwait into a high-stakes encounter. Despite Kuwait’s early advantage, Oman’s lower-order batsmen, Ayaan Khan and Rafiullah, staged a resilient counter-attack, guiding their team to a competitive total of 200-9.

In pursuit of a challenging target of 201, Kuwait’s innings began promisingly but faltered under pressure, succumbing to Oman’s relentless bowling attack. Oman emerged victorious, solidifying their spot in the semifinals.

Looking forward, Nepal’s flawless performance sets the stage for an electrifying semifinal clash against the UAE, while hosts Oman brace for an intense showdown against Hong Kong in what promises to be a thrilling encounter.
