Dubai Hosts Inauguration of Odishan Tribal Painting Exhibition

In the UAE, a vibrant celebration of cultural exchange and artistic expression took center stage as the Odisha Lalit Kala Akademi, under the esteemed Department of Odia Language, Literature & Culture, Government of Odisha, launched an unprecedented initiative. Inspired by the visionary leadership of Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, this ambitious endeavor sought to illuminate the captivating realm of Odishan Tribal Art, providing a global platform for tribal artists to showcase their talent and heritage on a grand scale.

The illustrious Hyatt Place Dubai Al Rigga served as the distinguished venue for this landmark event, where fifteen exceptionally gifted tribal artists hailing from the heartlands of Odisha unveiled their mesmerizing artworks before an international audience. The inauguration of the Exhibition was graced by the esteemed presence of Satish Kumar Shivan, Consul General of India, Dubai, whose commendation echoed the sentiment of appreciation towards the Odisha Lalit Kala Akademi for fostering cultural exchange and dialogue. Leading the event was Padamashree Sudarsan Pattnaik, the eminent Sand Artist and President of the Odisha Lalit Kala Akademi, whose leadership exemplified a profound commitment to the promotion of artistic endeavors.

The exhibited artworks served as poignant reflections of Odishan Tribal Culture, intricately weaving together the vibrant tapestry of traditions and festivities observed by communities such as the Sauras, Santhals, Kolhas, and Kandhas. Originating from diverse districts including Rayagada, Koraput, Mayurbhanja, Kalahandi, Keonjhar, and Sundargarh, the participating artists deftly captured the essence of their cultural heritage on canvas, employing a rich palette of acrylic colors to breathe life into their creations.

Each artist, including luminaries such as Soubhagya Manjari Mallick, Dolly Jani, Binodini Behera, Suryalata Nayak, Subhadra Karoa, Sukumati Thiu, Bharati Tudu, Sujanamati Ekka, Indira Gamango, Anil Kerketta, Junesh Gamango, Jogi Sabaro, Samsan Gamango, Santosh Kumar Singh Khuntia, and Rajendra Singh Laguri, was duly honored during the event, their remarkable contributions serving as a testament to the enduring spirit of creativity and cultural heritage.

The esteemed presence of Madhusudan Das, special secretary of the Department of Odia Language Literature and Culture, Government of Odisha, lent further gravitas to the occasion, as he extended a gracious welcome to esteemed guests. Panchanan Samal, the secretary of the Odisha Lalit Kala Akademi, executed his role with finesse, ensuring the seamless coordination and execution of the inaugural function.
