Bahrain and Saudi Arabia Discuss 2 GW Solar Project for Alba Smelter

Bahrain is in talks with Saudi Arabia about a 2-gigawatt Surya Min plant that would provide clean power to aluminum smelter Alba – Aluminum Bahrain (BHB:ALBH) (BHB:ALBH), Chief Executive Ali Al Pakali said.

Al-Paqali told Asharq in an interview that the company is struggling with environmental, social and personal (ESG) cohesion and the resulting energy-related challenges of rising energy costs.

Chief Adnik said the current high gas prices and controlling mobility costs are also significantly reducing the company’s capacity.

No further information was released regarding the consultations with Saudi Arabia.

The majority shareholder of the album is the Bahraini sovereign wealth fund. Business has 20.6%. Alba will also house the largest aluminum plant in China to produce 1.62 million tonnes of aluminum in 2023.
