KUWAIT, May 12 — Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, President of the UAE National Olympic Committee, led a high-level UAE delegation at the 37th meeting of the Presidents of the GCC National Olympic Committees, held in Kuwait. The meeting brought together top sports officials from across the Gulf region to chart a collaborative path for the future of athletics and Olympic development.
Joining Sheikh Mansoor were key UAE figures including Dr Ahmad Belhoul Al Falasi, Minister of Sports and Vice President of the UAE NOC; Dr Matar Hamed Al Neyadi, UAE Ambassador to Kuwait; Faris Mohammed Al Mutawa, Secretary-General of the NOC; and board member Noura Hassan Al Jasmi.
The UAE’s plan to host the inaugural Sports Law and Management Conference in 2026 was approved, which was one of the meeting’s main results. Major subjects including governance under the Olympic Charter, digital change in sports management, legal challenges in arbitration, and openness in sports financing will be the focus of this innovative project. The purpose of the event is to establish new standards for the fusion of ethics, technology, and the law in sports.
GCC member states were urged to take an active part by presenting their own successful administrative and legal models and submitting research papers. Discussions also highlighted the importance of public-private partnerships to support the conference and the use of digital tools like live streaming and interactive applications to broaden reach and impact.
The meeting also assigned the UAE, in its upcoming role as presiding nation, to coordinate with the GCC General Secretariat in planning the 38th Olympic Committee Presidents’ Meeting, along with its preparatory Executive Office session.
The participants gave Qatar’s hosting of the 4th GCC Sports Games in 2026 their approval, emphasizing inclusive participation, particularly for female athletes, and technical preparedness. Additionally, Kuwait’s application to host the 2nd GCC Youth Games in 2028 was approved, emphasizing age-group rules, fair play, and the incorporation of cultural and educational elements.
The Executive Office and pertinent committees reviewed the final report of the third GCC Beach Games, which was hosted by Oman. Its technical elements, difficulties, and suggestions were evaluated.
The meeting placed significant focus on enhancing women’s participation in sports through initiatives like the Gulf Women’s Sports Hackathon, which will serve as a platform for innovation, collaboration, and youth empowerment across the region. With the goal of implementing the best solutions at the GCC level, this program will provide training, mentorship, and awards for ideas that have an impact.
The ongoing construction of the Unified Digital Platform for Gulf Women’s Sports, which will have the full backing of all member countries, was the subject of additional discussions. In order to establish the GCC as a center for inclusive sports tourism, member states will contribute information on sports facilities and tourist destinations.
Sheikh Mansoor attended a special cultural event at the Sheikh Jaber Al Ahmad Cultural Centre to wrap up the summit, which featured traditional performances and folklore honoring the Gulf’s common heritage.
