MRO Middle East and AIME 2024: Elevating Aviation in Dubai

Dubai, 5th March, 2024 (WAM) – The highly anticipated MRO Middle East and Aircraft Interiors Middle East (AIME) 2024 opened its doors today at the Dubai World Trade Centre. The inauguration ceremony was led by Khalifa Al Zaffin, Executive Chairman of Dubai Aviation City Corporation and Dubai South. Running until March 6th, this co-located event has emerged as a focal point for the global aviation supply chain, especially amid the substantial growth witnessed in the Middle East aviation sector.

Projections from Airbus, a leading aircraft manufacturer, suggest that the commercial aircraft services market in the Middle East is set to more than double by 2042, reaching an impressive $28 billion.

Reflecting the optimistic outlook for the industry, MRO Middle East and AIME 2024 has seen a remarkable 20% increase in attendance compared to previous years. With over 240 exhibitors and 120 airlines participating, the event stands as a testament to its role in facilitating collaboration and fostering innovation within the aviation sector.

Key announcements and signings marked the first day, including Joramco’s unveiling of a new maintenance agreement with TUI and HAECO’s announcement of the induction of Emirates’ first Airbus A380 aircraft at its airframe facility in Xiamen, marking a significant new base maintenance contract.

The Go Live! Theater hosted global experts for insightful sessions on crucial industry themes. The ‘Capacity Issues on the Horizon?’ panel delved into fleet expansion plans, collaboration, and the challenges faced by MROs, OEMs, and suppliers in sustaining the growing fleet size in the region.

Justin ODonnell, Director Technical Operations at Riyadh Air, emphasized the transient nature of seasonal passenger traffic, leading to surges in MRO demand, especially during peak periods. He acknowledged the challenges this presents and highlighted the rising competition in the Middle East, making it more challenging for regional airlines to secure the same capacity.

The ‘Future of Cabin Design – Anticipating and Adapting to Emerging Trends’ panel explored industry focuses such as sustainability, aircraft connectivity, and passenger comfort. A live audience poll revealed that ‘integration of technology and connectivity’ is expected to undergo the most significant change in the next decade.

Jo Rowan, Associate Director – Strategy at PriestmanGoode, emphasized the challenges of catering to the needs of Generation Alpha, the hyperconnected digital generation, alongside an aging population with different technological expectations.

Daniel Kerrison, Senior Vice President of Inflight Operations at flydubai, highlighted sustainability as a critical issue set to see substantial changes in the next decade. He underscored a shift in aircraft design processes, in-service life, and post-service life, with sustainability becoming a key decision criterion.

The co-located events will continue at the Dubai World Trade Centre, offering a platform for further insightful content sessions, industry showcases, and collaborative discussions, reinforcing Dubai’s position as a hub for aviation excellence.
