Dubai [UAE], May 12 – Indian javelin thrower Karishma Sanil secured the top spot at the UAE Athletics Women’s Gala 2025 in Dubai, adding another international title to her name on a day that also saw strong performances from Indian athletes across multiple events.

Held at the Dubai Police Club Stadium on Mother’s Day, the 24-year-old Karishma Sanil emerged victorious in a three-woman javelin contest with a throw of 53.33 meters. The UAE’s Aliazya Tarek took second place with a distance of 31.04m, while India’s Harshita Sehrawat finished third with 16.77m. Karishma’s personal best remains 55.55m, while the national record of 63.82m is held by Asian Games champion Annu Rani.

In the long jump event, India continued to impress. Asian Games silver medalist Ancy Sojan claimed second place with a season-best leap of 6.54m, narrowly behind Arab Games champion Esraa Owis, who won with a jump of 6.66m. Fellow Indian and Asian Championships silver medalist Shaili Singh secured third place with a 6.48m effort. Ancy and Shaili hold personal bests of 6.71m and 6.76m respectively, with the Indian national record of 6.83m held by Anju Bobby George.

Both Ancy and Shaili also competed at the UAE Grand Prix 2025 two days earlier at the same venue. There, Shaili placed second with a 6.44m jump, while Ancy finished third at 6.33m, showcasing consistent form in back-to-back competitions.

Elsewhere on Sunday, India’s Moumita Mondal finished second in the women’s 200m sprint with a time of 24.61 seconds, behind South Africa’s Tamzin Thomas who clocked 24.15s.

India’s Niharika Vashisht finished third in the triple jump with a new personal best of 13.58 meters, while Sawant Poorva, another Indian, finished fourth with a jump of 12.98 meters. With 13.75 meters, Zinzi Xulu of South Africa won the competition, followed by Andreea Talos of Romania with 13.64 meters.

With tenacity and strong performances, Indian athletes made an impression at every event, highlighting the nation’s increasing dominance in women’s sports on the global scene.
