ED aims to extradite Mahadev, an accused individual, from the UAE

ED seeks UAE extradition for Chandrakar and Uppal in Mahadev case

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) is pursuing the extradition of prime suspects Saurabh Chandrakar and Ravi Uppal from the UAE due to delays in their deportation. The two individuals, allegedly involved in illegal betting and money laundering valued at Rs 6,000 crore, have evaded swift deportation despite Uppal’s recent arrest by Dubai police and Chandrakar’s house arrest.

Despite red corner notices issued against them in October following a series of legal actions by the ED, including obtaining a non-bailable warrant and filing a chargesheet in a Raipur court, the extradition process has encountered unexpected delays. Sources within the investigation cite the intricate legal procedures involved in these extraditions, suggesting a lengthy waiting period ahead.

Uppal’s arrest in the Mahadev Book Online case sparked significant upheaval in Chhattisgarh’s political landscape. Allegations surfaced that the platform’s promoters had allegedly funneled Rs 500 crore in bribes to Congress politicians, a contention that became a focal point in the state’s elections. The BJP capitalized on this issue, amplifying the narrative during the campaign, which may have contributed to Congress’s unexpected defeat, despite being considered the frontrunner.

The recent arrest of Asim Das, apprehended with Rs 5 crore in cash in Raipur, further implicated Chandrakar and Uppal. The ED claims Das confessed to being a courier tasked with delivering the funds to politician ‘Baghel,’ purportedly dispatched by the Mahadev app promoters.

The ED’s relentless pursuit of extradition and the ongoing revelations surrounding the Mahadev Book Online case continue to deepen the intricacies of this high-profile investigation, uncovering alleged connections between the accused and prominent political figures.
