UAE Takes Flight with PAL-V Liberty: A Groundbreaking Leap into the Future of Mobility

The United Arab Emirates is preparing to host the PAL-V Liberty, one of the first flying cars in history, and is laying the groundwork to become a global leader in transportation technology.
The UAE is making significant progress towards the future of urban mobility, with important negotiations currently underway in Sharjah to produce this innovative Dutch car.

A major milestone in the development of personal transport has been reached with the launch of the PAL-V Liberty at the prestigious Sharjah Research, Technology and Innovation Park (SRTIP). In just ten minutes, the two-seater, which costs AED 2.94 million, can be transformed from a car into a gyroplane. It offers unparalleled adaptability and speed for regional travel, with an impressive 500km flying range and a driving range of 1,300km when powered by regular unleaded petrol.

Production of the PAL-V Liberty will initially commence in the Netherlands, with the first round of 100 hours of certification test flights planned for early 2026. If all goes as scheduled, the Liberty could be soaring through UAE airspace by 2027.

A strategic partnership with Jetex, a provider of aviation solutions based in Dubai, supports the ambitious endeavor. In addition to the opening of pilot training facilities to get pilots and drivers ready for this new dual-operation transport mode, demonstration flights are scheduled to start in 2026. Operators will need both a regular driving licence and a gyroplane pilot licence to legally navigate the Liberty on both land and air.

The flying car is set to revolutionize inter-Gulf travel, cutting journey times significantly. For instance, what would typically be a long road trip from Abu Dhabi to Muscat, Doha, or Kuwait can now be accomplished in just over two hours by air.

““This demonstration of the PAL-V Liberty is more than a showcase of innovation – it underscores our role in paving the way for high-impact, market-oriented technology in the region,” said Hussain Al Mahmoudi, CEO of SRTIP, highlighting the regional impact of innovation.

The European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) recently certified the PAL-V Liberty with “No Technical Objections”, further enhancing its reliability and moving it closer to commercialization.

By embracing this flying revolution, the UAE is at the forefront of smart transportation and next-generation mobility solutions.
