Dubai Enforces Strict Law on Government Logo Misuse: Fines Up to Dh500,000, 5 Years Jail

A new rule that governs the use of the Government of Dubai’s and the Emirate of Dubai’s logos is about to take effect. Those who break the legislation risk a fine of Dh100,000 to Dh500,000, a jail term of up to five years, or both.

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, issued a regulation prohibiting the use of logos for commercial-related activities, including product promotion and advertising.

In addition, it is prohibited to use the logo in any way that alters its value or status, or to attack it in any way. Additionally, using the logo in any way that goes against the Emirate of Dubai’s values and ideals or that violates morals or public order is forbidden.

The Dubai Government logo is used on the buildings, sites, events, activities, records, documents, websites, and applications of the Dubai Government and government institutions; the Dubai Emirate logo is used on seals of locations, events, documents, and institutions with special permission.

Additionally, the law mandates that the logo be used in compliance with the rules created by the Executive Council of the Emirate of Dubai’s General Secretariat.

According to the law, anyone who knows of someone who has committed any of the prohibited acts must report it to the competent authority, who will take the necessary legal action against the perpetrators.
