Oman Reports No Mpox Cases, Monitors Global Outbreak
Oman’s Ministry of Health confirmed on Saturday that no cases of Mpox have been reported in the country.
The authority said it was monitoring updates on the disease after it was declared a public health emergency by the World Health Organization.
Pakistan’s health ministry on Friday confirmed at least one case of the smallpox virus in a patient who returned from a Gulf country, while provincial health officials have identified three cases. Sweden announced on Thursday that it had confirmed its first case of empoxin, a viral infection spread by close contact.
The World Health Organization has declared the empox outbreak to represent a global health emergency for the second time in two years. Mpox is spread between people through direct contact with infected skin or wounds. These include speech, breathing, touch and intimacy. Respiratory droplets or short-range aerosols from close contact can spread the disease.
