NEW DELHI, July 25 — The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is set to actively participate in the upcoming 46th Session of the World Heritage Committee, which will be held in New Delhi, India, from July 21 to July 31, 2024. This marks a significant milestone as it is the first time India will host this prestigious international event, highlighting its rich cultural and natural heritage on a global platform.
Saudi Arabia’s Representation and Focus
Saudi Arabia’s involvement in the session will be led by the Saudi National Committee for Education, Culture and Science, along with the Kingdom’s permanent delegation to UNESCO and the Heritage Commission. This participation underscores Saudi Arabia’s commitment to enhancing its role in international heritage discussions, particularly with a focus on its cultural sites.
A notable highlight of Saudi Arabia’s participation is its emphasis on its cultural heritage, including the Cultural Landscape of Al-Faw, which is under consideration for inscription on the World Heritage List. Session Agenda and Key Topics
The 46th Session of the World Heritage Committee will feature a comprehensive agenda that includes the review of new site proposals and the assessment of existing World Heritage sites. This year, the committee will evaluate a proposal to add 27 new sites from various regions worldwide to the World Heritage List.
Additionally, the committee will review the preservation status of 124 sites currently listed, including 56 that are categorized as being in danger. This review is crucial for ensuring the protection and conservation of the world’s most significant cultural and natural heritage sites.
