UAE Women Collapse from 192/0 to All Out in Same Over
Strategic decision to retire batters early ensures UAE’s win before rain disruption in ICC Women’s T20 Asia Qualifier against Qatar

UAE Women’s Team Retires Out Entire Batting Line-up in Historic Move During T20 World Cup Qualifier
Bangkok, May 12 — In a highly unusual and historic moment in international women’s cricket, the United Arab Emirates women’s team opted for a strategic but unprecedented move during their ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Asia Region Qualifier match against Qatar in Bangkok.
After a blistering opening partnership, UAE were cruising at 192 for no loss at the end of the 16th over. India-born captain Esha Oza led the charge with a stunning 113 off 55 balls, while her opening partner Theertha Satish contributed a rapid 74 from 42 deliveries. The duo made the most of a sluggish Qatar bowling attack and seemed on course for a mammoth total.
However, with rain clouds threatening to interrupt the match, UAE’s head coach Ahmed Raza and team management made a rare tactical decision: they retired out all batters after the 16th over. This was done to ensure they had enough time to bowl out Qatar and secure a win before weather conditions worsened.
Since declarations are not permitted in T20 cricket—unlike in first-class formats—the innings ended with an unprecedented 10 “retired out” dismissals, catapulting the total number of such dismissals in women’s T20Is from 13 to 23 in a single match. Notably, this now surpasses the total in men’s T20Is, which stands at 9.
Final UAE Innings: 192/10 in 16 overs
Esha Oza (C): 113 (55), retired out
Theertha Satish: 74 (42), retired out
Eight other batters: All retired out without facing a ball
Keziah Miriam Sabin: 0* (0), not out
In response, Qatar could not withstand the pressure of UAE’s bowling. Their innings crumbled for just 29 runs in 11.1 overs, with seven batters dismissed for ducks. Opener Rizpha Bano Emmanuel was the only player to reach double digits, scoring 20.
UAE’s rare move paid off handsomely, allowing them to complete the match before the expected rain while also etching a quirky new record in T20 history.
