UAE secures landmark victory against Bangladesh in second T20I match

Record-breaking 205-run chase by UAE sets new benchmark for Associate Nations, momentum shifts ahead of series decider

UAE Secures Historic Win Over Bangladesh with Record T20I Chase

On May 19, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) defeated Bangladesh in the second Twenty20 International of their three-match series, causing an exciting upset at Sharjah Cricket Stadium. A thrilling showdown was set up when the UAE put on a spectacular display to win the final over and tie the series 1-1 while chasing a mammoth 205-run target.

As the most successful run chase in T20I cricket history by an Associate Nation against an ICC Full Member, this thrilling triumph was a turning point in cricket history. Despite losing two wickets in the final two overs, UAE maintained composure despite needing 29 runs. While Dhruv Parashar’s crucial six helped tip the scales in favor of the UAE, captain Muhammad Waseem also played a significant part.

The final moments were nerve-racking as Haider Ali took a daring second run with just one ball remaining. A desperate dive got him home safely, sparking jubilant celebrations from the UAE team, while Bangladesh was left in disbelief.

Bangladesh had earlier posted 205 for 5, powered by a 59-run blitz from Tanzid Hasan and a composed 40 by Litton Das. However, without the services of Mustafizur Rahman—currently engaged in IPL 2025 with Delhi Capitals—the Bangladeshi bowling unit struggled to contain UAE’s aggressive batting in the death overs.

UAE’s middle-order stood strong after both openers—Zohaib Khan and Muhammad Waseem—were dismissed with five overs and 48 runs remaining. The depth of batting and composure under duress were key factors.

All attention will be on the last matchup on May 21 since the series is now deadlocked. UAE’s incredible comeback has turned the tide in their favor and increased expectations of another upset in the match that matters most.
