UAE Engages in G20 Ministerial Session in Brazil

Abu Dhabi [UAE], October 9: The UAE represented by the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure (MoEI) participated in the G20 Ministerial Session held in the Republic of Brazil.

The goal of the meeting is to promote collaboration among G20 members while highlighting the potential and difficulties facing the energy industry and climate change initiatives.

During the discussion, Sharif Al Olama, the Deputy Secretary for Energy and Petroleum Affairs at MoEI, reiterated the UAE’s dedication to a just, systematic, and equal energy transition, in accordance with the UAE Consensus.

During the G20 summit, he took part in multiple high-level talks off-site.

He participated in the Clean Energy Ministry (CEM) and Mission Innovation (MI) Dialogue, where he highlighted the role of innovation and collaboration in redefining the energy landscape to meet climate objectives.

Also, Al Olama participated in the Unlocking Future Fuels ministerial session, where he highlighted the objectives of the UAE Energy Strategy 2050 and the UAE’s firm commitment to the energy transition.

The Under Secretary for Energy and Petroleum Affairs chaired the Third Ministerial Meeting of the International Hydrogen Trade Forum (IHTF). The meeting was attended by representatives of IHTF-supporting countries seeking to expand hydrogen trade. They discussed ways to promote cross-border trade in hydrogen and its derivatives and potential markets.

And, ‘Moving future fuels, production and transport aligned?’ He participated in a session where he outlined the UAE’s actions to enable a landscape that supports the production of hydrogen-based fuels and sustainable biofuels. and aviation sectors.

Al Olama also participated in a session titled ‘Keep Cool: Deploying High-Efficiency, Innovative Cooling Technologies’, which highlighted the challenges of energy consumption and climate impacts in the cooling sector.

Speaking about his participation, he said, “Such meetings provide valuable opportunities to align views, share experiences and knowledge and expand partnerships with like-minded countries. The UAE plays an active role in the global energy market, focusing on developing its role as a provider of renewable energy, particularly low-emission hydrogen.

He added that cooperation between the UAE and other G20 members will help achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), drive joint climate action and accelerate the energy transition.

He noted that the UAE has made great strides in transitioning to clean energy. The UAE has developed Energy Strategy 2050, which pledges to triple its renewable capacity by 2030. It invested AED160 billion in clean energy and plans to invest an additional AED500 billion in the energy sector over the next three decades. 2050

He further pointed out that the UAE’s current renewable capacity is 6 GW and nuclear capacity is 5.6 GW. By 2030, the UAE’s clean energy potential will be 19.8 GW.
