Dubai’s Generous Gesture: Free Parking for Eid Al Fitr Celebration

Dubai has announced a heartwarming initiative to offer free public parking in commemoration of the Eid Al Fitr holiday. The emirate’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has confirmed that parking charges will be waived, with the exception of multistorey parking areas, starting from Monday and continuing until the third day of Shawwal, the 10th month of the Islamic calendar.

The commencement of Shawwal hinges on the sighting of the crescent moon, which serves as the symbolic conclusion of Ramadan and the commencement of the joyous Eid festivities. To determine the onset of Shawwal, the UAE’s moon-sighting committee is scheduled to convene on Monday, a momentous occasion eagerly anticipated by Muslims around the world.

The significance of this celestial event extends to the duration of Ramadan, which may culminate either on Monday as the 29th and final day, leading to the third day of Shawwal falling on Thursday, or if the moon remains concealed, Ramadan will extend to 30 days, with the third day of Shawwal coinciding with Friday.

Furthermore, as the religious festivities draw to a close, parking tariffs are set to resume on the fourth day of Shawwal, with the specific day dependent on whether the Eid holiday spans Friday or Saturday.

In addition to the parking concessions, the RTA has also unveiled the operating hours for the Dubai Metro during the Eid holiday period. The Dubai Metro will commence operations from 5am on Saturday, April 6, until 1am on Sunday, and subsequently, from 8am on Sunday, April 7, until 1am on Monday. The Metro will maintain its operational hours from 5am to 1am the following day, Monday, April 8, through Saturday, April 13, and from 8am to midnight on Sunday, April 14.

Furthermore, the Dubai Tram’s schedule during the Eid holiday has been meticulously planned. The Tram will operate from 6am to 1am, Monday through Saturday, and from 9am on Sunday, April 14, until 1am the following day.

Similarly, federal government personnel will enjoy paid leave from Monday, April 8, until Sunday, April 14, with work resuming on Monday, April 15, as directed by the UAE Cabinet.

Dubai’s gesture of free parking and the comprehensive holiday schedules for transportation services reflect the emirate’s commitment to facilitating a seamless and enjoyable Eid Al Fitr celebration for its residents and visitors alike.
