Merck Foundation CEO Congratulates Tanzania President on UAE Honor
Mumbai (India)/Dubai (UAE), May 6: Senator Dr. Rasha Kelej, the CEO of Merck Foundation—the charitable arm of Merck KGaA Germany—extended her heartfelt congratulations to H.E. Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, on being conferred the highly prestigious ‘Mother of the Nation Order’ by H.H. Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates.
In her statement, Dr. Rasha Kelej praised President Samia as a symbol of strength, compassion, and visionary leadership. “This recognition is more than symbolic—it reflects your deep commitment to uplifting the people of Tanzania through inclusive development and social unity,” she noted. “Your Excellency, you are truly ‘More Than a Mother’—an inspiration to all African women.”
Dr. Kelej highlighted the strong partnership between Merck Foundation and the Tanzanian government under President Samia’s leadership. She noted that through their collaboration, 78 medical scholarships have been awarded to Tanzanian doctors in 44 vital specialties. The initiative has transformed the country’s medical landscape by greatly improving access to healthcare in neglected communities.
Additionally, the Merck Foundation, in partnership with the Tanzanian government and with the distinguished sponsorship of President Samia, organized the 11th annual “Africa Asia Luminary” conference in Dar es Salaam. The President inaugurated the global event, which brought together more than 10,000 participants from over 70 countries—including First Ladies from 15 nations, ministers, medical experts, and media representatives.
Reflecting on the event, Senator Kelej said, “It was an immense honor to have Her Excellency inaugurate our most impactful conference to date.“Her leadership has been a beacon of progress in women’s empowerment, female education and quality healthcare. She is a true role model and inspiration for African women.”
