Dubai RTA Introduces ‘Rail Bus’ with 40-Passenger Capacity

Emirates unveils the autonomous, solar-powered Rail Bus, redefining eco-friendly mobility and public transport efficiency.

Dubai Introduces 3D-Printed Rail Bus: A Leap Towards Smart, Sustainable Transport

Dubai is set to introduce a revolutionary public transport system called the Rail Bus. It is an autonomous, fully 3D-printed vehicle designed with efficiency and sustainability in mind. The innovative concept, unveiled by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) on Monday, is a major step towards intelligent, eco-friendly urban mobility.

A glimpse into the future of public transport

The Rail Bus, currently under development, will be showcased at the 2025 World Government Summit in Madinat Jumeirah. Dubai’s desire to combine cutting-edge technology and sustainability is reflected in its futuristic black and gold look.

All passengers, including those with disabilities, are guaranteed accessibility thanks to the bus’s creative design. Although each carriage has 22 seats, it can hold up to 40 people. Additionally, commuters will be notified about forthcoming stops, weather updates, and journey data via real-time information panels above the seats. Passenger safety instructions are placed strategically throughout the bus, and control panels are provided on both ends of the carriage for operating efficiency.

Eco-Friendly and Economical Transportation
The Rail Bus, an autonomous solar-powered system, is made to blend in perfectly with Dubai’s current public transportation infrastructure, with an emphasis on first- and last-mile connectivity. The Rail Bus will be able to reach speeds of up to 100 kmph because to the elevated track system that is being built throughout the city. With its totally 3D-printed framework made of recyclable materials, this futuristic transport system, which stands 2.9 meters tall and 11.5 meters long, is lightweight and incredibly scalable.

The project supports important national projects like the following and is in line with Dubai’s goal of being the smartest city in the world:

UAE’s 2050 Net Zero Strategy
Dubai’s 2050 Public Transportation Zero-Emissions Plan
According to Dubai’s Self-Driving Transport Strategy 2030, 25% of all daily travels should be autonomous.
The Rail Bus’s emphasis on sustainability and innovation will reduce its negative effects on the environment while simultaneously improving the effectiveness and affordability of the emirate’s public transportation system.

Sheikh Mohammed’s Endorsement of Smart Mobility
During the World Government Summit, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, personally inspected the Rail Bus model at the RTA platform. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Crown Prince of Dubai, the UAE’s Deputy Prime Minister, and the country’s Minister of Defense accompanied him.

The Rail Bus is intended to revolutionize public transportation in Dubai and further establish the city as a global leader in intelligent, sustainable mobility solutions, even though the official debut date has not yet been declared.
