Abu Dhabi to Dubai Journey Takes Just 57 Minutes, Etihad Rail Announces
Emirates' Rail Network to Enhance Connectivity, Tourism, and Trade

Etihad Rail Unveils Travel Times, Expands Network with New Passenger Routes Across UAE
Passengers will be able to travel from the capital to Fujairah in less than two hours when the trains hit the tracks.
Etihad Rail has announced journey times for some of its main passenger routes.
It takes 57 minutes to travel from Abu Dhabi to Dubai, while it takes 105 minutes to travel from Abu Dhabi to Fujairah on the east coast. The train operator also said the journey time between Abu Dhabi and Al Ruwais, 200 km west of the capital, will be 70 minutes.
“Travel times to other destinations will be revealed in due course,” Etihad Rail said in a social media post on Monday.
Although the date of commencement of passenger service has not been announced, the announcement is another step in the train service.
Etihad Trains has released the travel times for its passenger trains across the UAE starting from Abu Dhabi.
The planned commuter route aims to reduce travel time, reduce congestion and promote tourism and trade. In March, it was announced that a major station would be built in Sharjah near the airport and university city, housing educational institutions.
Once operational, the station will help increase ridership on Etihad trains to around 14,000 a day during the week, officials said.
It follows Etihad Rail’s announcement that it will build its first passenger station in Fujairah.
Other stations across Dubai and the UAE are expected as part of a commuter network project that will connect 11 cities and regions across the country, from Al Silah to Fujairah, taking in Al Ruwais, Al Mirfa, Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah and Al. Thai.
The passenger trains travel at a speed of 200 km per hour and have a capacity of around 400 passengers. Officials have said they expect more than 36 million people to use the service annually by 2030.
By 2022, passengers can expect travel times between Abu Dhabi and Dubai of around 50 minutes and from Abu Dhabi to Fujairah of around 100 minutes, the operator said. Etihad has previously confirmed that the train stations will be connected to existing transport infrastructure and passengers will have access to taxi and ride-hailing services.
The cabs are equipped with Wi-Fi, entertainment systems, charging points and various food and beverage options.
Purpose of Work and Leisure:
The first passenger journey on the Etihad train took place in January between Abu Dhabi and Al Tanna. Dr Sultan Al Jaber, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology and Managing Director and Group Chief Executive of Adnoc, was one of the first passengers.
Once opened for public services, the line will enable ATNAC employees to travel by train from Abu Dhabi to Al Tanna, 250 km west of the capital.
Plans for a luxury train service were also unveiled last year in a deal signed between Italian luxury hospitality giant Arsenale and Etihad Rail. The “rail ship” is expected to cross the country from Fujairah to the Liwa Desert in Abu Dhabi.
Etihad Rail’s freight network is already operational, and the UAE and Oman are developing a rail line called Hafeet Rail. The project is a joint venture between Mubadala, Oman Rail and Etihad Rail and will connect the UAE to the port of Sohar.
It has secured $1.5 billion in project financing, backed by a consortium of Emirati, Omani, regional and international banks, state news agency Wam reported last week. The agreement was announced during the Global Rail Transport Infrastructure Exhibition and Conference in Abu Dhabi.
