UAE Parents Relieved: India Announces Medical Exam Centres in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah

NEET-UG 2024 Exams in 14 Global Centres

Indian parents residing in the UAE breathed a collective sigh of relief following the announcement from India’s National Testing Agency (NTA) regarding the inclusion of foreign testing centers, including Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Sharjah, for its medical entrance exam.

In a recent tweet, the NTA disclosed that the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test for Undergraduates (NEET-UG) 2024 would be conducted in a total of 14 international centers, extending the reach of the examination globally. This decision, communicated through a notice dated February 20, came as a welcomed development for parents, many of whom had expressed concerns after the initial release of the exam centers did not include any international locations.

The notice stated, “In continuation of the public notice dated February 9, 2024, it has been decided that the exam will be conducted in foreign cities.” Additional international testing centers were specified, including locations like Lagos, Singapore, and Bangkok.

The news brought immense joy to parents like Sherin Shafeeq, who expressed gratitude for the inclusion of foreign centers. She emphasized the emotional journey she had been on, praying for a resolution since the initial notice was issued.

Sherin revealed that the coaching center had advised parents to delay filling out the application form in the hope that international centers might be announced. Her sentiments echoed the relief felt by numerous parents who had been apprehensive about the potential challenges associated with traveling to India for the exams.

The absence of foreign centers in the initial document raised concerns among parents, who feared the impact on their children’s performance. Traveling to India would not only disrupt their study routines but also entail managing logistics, taking time off work, and dealing with budgetary considerations, including expensive airfare.

Recalling the positive development in 2021 when international centers were introduced due to the challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic, parents were hopeful for a similar provision this year. The NTA’s initial announcement had only listed centers in India, leading to a renewed sense of worry.

Nearly two weeks after the initial announcement, the NTA responded to the concerns by confirming the decision to hold the entrance exam in multiple cities worldwide. This decision is seen as a considerate move that takes into account the challenges faced by Non-Resident Indian (NRI) students.

The notice also addressed the concerns of students who had already selected Indian centers and paid the fees, assuring them the opportunity to correct their center and country choice during a designated correction window. The correction window is set to open after the registration period concludes.

Alka Malik, Founder and Managing Director of coaching center Ascentria, expressed joy and appreciation for the NTA’s decision, particularly acknowledging the consideration for NRI students. She assured parents that the coaching center would keep track of the correction window and inform them promptly.

Established as an independent and autonomous organization by India’s Ministry of Education, the NTA plays a pivotal role in conducting competitive exams, including the NEET-UG, ensuring fair and accessible evaluation processes.
