UAE Exhibitions, Conferences Now Key to Economic Growth

UAE’s Growing Role in Global Exhibitions and Conferences Driving Economic Growth and Innovation

UAE’s Flourishing Exhibitions Sector Powers Economic Growth and Global Reputation

The exhibitions and conferences sector in the UAE is increasingly becoming a cornerstone of the country’s strategy to build a diversified, knowledge-based economy. As the country moves forward with a vision for sustainable development, the sector has become a dynamic force for growth, innovation and international engagement.

In 2025, the sector continued to thrive, cementing its position as a key engine of economic diversification. With state-of-the-art infrastructure, modern facilities and a blend of local talent and global expertise, the UAE has cemented its reputation as a leading destination for large-scale international events.

The Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Company (ADNEC) had a major influence, contributing AED 8.5 billion directly to the UAE’s GDP in 2024 – a sharp rise from the AED 7.4 billion reported in 2023. More than 1,000 events were held at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre, Al Ain Convention Centre and Excel London, attracting a record 5.4 million visitors. This increase reflects the growing scope and impact of national events.

ADNEC’s hospitality division served more than 40 million meals and supported more than 2,200 events, while its events division, Capital Events, facilitated business deals worth AED 10 billion. With over 1.5 million visitors, their hotel portfolio demonstrated the combined economic benefits of the exhibition industry. One of its highlights was hosting one of the largest public iftars in the region, which fed nearly 8,000 people.

Meanwhile, the Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) delivered an exceptional performance in 2024. The center attracted over 2 million visitors and produced AED 22.35 billion in economic production while hosting 100 big events, a 32% increase from the previous year. Dubai’s local economy benefited directly from AED 13.04 billion of this. Around 936,000 of those attending were expatriates, cementing Dubai’s position as a major hub for business travel. This achievement is in line with the continued growth of DWTC, which aims to enhance its capacity to host even larger and more significant events by 2026.

In addition, Sharjah’s Expo Centre (ECS) has become a significant player in the national exhibition scene, promoting growth in the social, cultural, educational and economic sectors. In 2024, ECS and its branches in Khor Fakkan and Al Tait hosted 80 exhibitions – a 60% increase on the previous year – welcoming nearly 3 million visitors. These events attracted well-known regional and international brands and a wide range of sectors such as trade, healthcare, jewellery, perfumes and smart transport.

Conclusion: A Future Built Through Events

More than a list of events, the exhibitions and conferences sector is a driving force in the UAE’s transition to an innovative, globally integrated economy. With its expanding influence, sustained investment and a constant focus on sustainability and quality, the sector is poised to play an even more important role in shaping the country’s future.
