UAE Calls for Unified Arab Parliamentary Action to Tackle Regional Challenges at AIPU Conference

Algeria, Algiers, May 4– The Federal National Council (FNC) of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in a significant address at the 38th Conference of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union (AIPU), which took place in Algiers from May 2–4, 2025, emphasized the increasing difficulties that the Arab world is confronting, including political disputes, economic and climate crises, and technological intricacies. The FNC underscored the urgent need for collective action to address these pressing issues, calling for a unified Arab parliamentary approach that would activate diplomatic efforts, foster peace, and strengthen solidarity within the Arab world.

On behalf of FNC Speaker Saqr Ghobash, the speech was given by Dr. Tariq Humaid Al Tayer, First Deputy Speaker of the FNC and Chairman of the UAE Parliamentary Division at the AIPU. According to Dr. Al Tayer’s views, Arab parliaments must cooperate in order to navigate the challenges facing the Arab world, which are no longer isolated but rather interrelated. Assuring the delivery of humanitarian aid, de-escalating conflicts, and protecting civilians in accordance with international humanitarian law all depended on bolstering parliamentary diplomacy and encouraging collaboration with foreign partners, he underlined.

The Palestinian cause, Dr. Al Tayer noted, remains at the forefront of Arab concerns, and it continues to be the region’s most critical issue.Israel’s embargo and military operations in Gaza have made the ongoing humanitarian catastrophe worse, which has resulted in tens of thousands of deaths. He urged solidarity in aiding the Palestinian people, providing humanitarian aid, and holding the international world responsible for its part in the crisis, calling for a united Arab response to the worsening tragedy.

Dr. Al Tayer reaffirmed the UAE’s steadfast support for Palestine, emphasizing the nation’s ongoing efforts through programs like “Operation Chivalrous Knight 3,” which supplies Gaza with essential humanitarian aid. In order to create a fair and long-lasting solution, he reaffirmed the UAE’s strong opposition to Israel’s collective punishment and displacement policies and called for the release of hostages, a permanent truce, and the start of political talks.

Furthermore, the UAE representative underscored that the Arab region’s increasingly complex landscape requires a revitalized approach to regional and international cooperation. The rapid shifts in global politics, the rise of new alliances, and the diminishing effectiveness of multilateral institutions call for a reinvention of Arab strategies and tools. Dr. Al Tayer called on the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union to take a leading role in rebuilding trust among Arab nations and reinforcing its influence on global platforms.

He concluded by stressing the need for proactive and forward-thinking visions to tackle the region’s most urgent issues, strengthen Arab parliamentary cooperation, and ensure that Arab interests are better represented on the world stage in an era of rapid global change. To protect the security and future of the Arab world, Dr. Al Tayer says the emphasis should be on developing strong alliances and smart diplomacy.

In this speech, the UAE reaffirmed its dedication to creating a strong and united Arab parliamentary voice that can protect the interests of its citizens while navigating the complexities of the region’s problems.
