UAE and Greece Deepen Strategic Ties with High-Level Visit and Expanding Economic Cooperation
In a major step toward strengthening international partnerships, Dr. Sultan bin Ahmed Al Jaber, UAE Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology and Managing Director and Group CEO of ADNOC, led a high-level delegation to Greece. Both nations have reaffirmed their resolve to expanding their all-encompassing strategic collaboration across important industrial and economic areas with this visit.
Dr. Al Jaber spoke with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis during his visit, expressing the UAE leadership’s greetings and highlighting the UAE’s intention to further bilateral ties. Enhancing cooperation in commerce, investment, technology, and defense as well as assessing the status of ongoing cooperative projects were the main topics of discussion.
Central to the visit was a review of the UAE-Greece Joint Investment Fund, launched in May 2022 with a total allocation of €4 billion. In order to promote reciprocal economic growth, the fund emphasizes both countries’ ambition to increase investment across a number of industries.
Dr. Al Jaber discussed opportunities to increase collaboration in important sectors like as defense, advanced manufacturing, and industrial innovation in meetings with Deputy Prime Minister Kostis Hatzidakis and Minister for National Defense Nikos Dendias. The leaders talked about technology transfer, industry partnerships, and the alignment of expertise between institutions while restating their common vision for a resilient economic future.
An important policy-level confirmation came with the announcement that both countries would continue implementing the existing double taxation agreement, reinforcing efforts to maintain a stable and investor-friendly environment.
The strategic conversation session themed “Forging the Next Chapter of Economic Partnership,” which brought together important stakeholders from the public and commercial sectors in both nations, was one of the visit’s highlights. In order to position both nations for strong economic synergy, discussions focused on cooperative prospects in the energy, renewables, infrastructure, data centers, and high-tech sectors.
Additionally, Dr. Al Jaber went to the Athens headquarters of TERNA Energy. The business is a major participant in renewable energy in Southeast and Central Europe and is currently a part of Masdar’s clean energy portfolio. He discussed the UAE’s growing role in international sustainability initiatives while evaluating current initiatives and growth plans with TERNA’s executive leadership.
The UAE delegation featured senior representatives from major national entities such as ADQ, Mubadala, Masdar, Presight, 2PointZero, and PureHealth, reflecting the breadth of the partnership and the wide scope of bilateral engagement.
Trade statistics reflect the growing strength of UAE-Greece economic ties. In 2024, non-oil trade reached AED 2.22 billion, a 6% yearly increase. Interestingly, global trade increased by 40% in the first quarter of 2025 when compared to the same period in 2024. As a result, exports increased by 140%, re-exports by 46%, and imports by 26%.
Trade between the two nations has grown by 80% in the last five years, with imports rising by 84% and exports rising by 72%. The consistent 16% yearly growth rate illustrates how resilient and future-proof this strategic alliance is.
The visit reaffirms the UAE’s innovative strategy for building international partnerships, encouraging sustainable development, and growing its position as a global center for innovation and investment.
