UAE expresses interest in setting up a tourism township in state

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) government has expressed a keen interest in bolstering the efforts of Kerala to establish itself as a premier global tourist destination. This interest materialized through a proposal to develop a tourism township at an elevation of approximately 3,000 feet above mean sea level in a picturesque hill station within the state.

The proposal, put forward by the Ambassador of the UAE to India, signifies the UAE’s readiness to undertake the comprehensive development of the necessary infrastructure for the tourism project in Kerala. The designated site for this ambitious endeavor is the scenic region of Wagamon/Munnar, carefully selected for its natural beauty and tourism potential.

Following discussions between Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and the UAE Ambassador, the Kerala state government has taken proactive steps by forming a dedicated working group. This group, chaired by the Chief Secretary and comprising key officials from relevant departments such as Tourism, Local Self-Government, Forest, and Revenue, is tasked with exploring the intricacies of the proposal and presenting a comprehensive plan to the UAE government.

The deliberations of the working group will encompass a thorough examination of technical and legal aspects, essential for the eventual signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the UAE government. Scheduled meetings with UAE authorities underscore the seriousness of both parties in advancing this collaborative initiative, with decisions expected to be made in the near future.

It’s worth noting that the realization of the tourism township project necessitates approval from the Central government, highlighting the significance and scale of the undertaking. Both Wagamon and Munnar, identified as potential sites for the tourism township, boast unique landscapes and captivating vistas, drawing visitors from across the globe.
