UAE Strongly Condemns Attack on UN Mission Helicopter and South Sudan Troops
Abu Dhabi [UAE], March 9: The United Arab Emirates has firmly denounced the recent attack on a helicopter operated by the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) and on the South Sudan People’s Defence Forces (SSPDF) in Upper Nile State. A UN peacekeeper and several government troops were sadly killed in the attack, which also injured two crew members.
The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) released a statement underlining the blatant violation of international law by attacks on both international peacekeeping forces and the country’s military, and expressing its strong condemnation of this heinous act.
Targeting humanitarian and peacekeeping missions is never acceptable, the Ministry emphasized, reinforcing the significance of maintaining international peace and security.
Furthermore, the UAE reaffirmed its unwavering support for countries contributing to UNMISS and expressed its heartfelt condolences to both the United Nations and the Government of South Sudan. The Ministry also wished those hurt in the attack a speedy and complete recovery and offered its condolences to the families of the dead.
The UAE urges the international community to work together to stop future transgressions of this kind and keeps pushing for diplomatic initiatives to bring peace back to areas affected by conflict.
