To establish the United Arab Emirates as a world leader in tourism, the strategy aims to foster an integrated ecosystem that supports sustainable growth and development.

The UAE’s islands, beaches, mountains, and nature reserves are highlighted in the current campaign, which also highlights the importance of preserving these natural resources for future generations. The UAE has made a name for itself as a place that combines modern innovation with cultural variety by combining breathtaking natural characteristics with a commitment to sustainability.

The UAE’s approach to eco-tourism aligns with the UN’s principles of nature-based travel, which emphasize appreciating natural and cultural heritage while minimizing environmental impact. Protected areas, such animal and marine reserves, are the main focus of the UAE’s ecotourism offerings. These reserves, which cover vast swaths of the country’s land and sea, are essential to preserving biodiversity and preserving environmental stability. The Ministry of Climate Change and Environment’s “UAE’s Natural Wonders” project is one example of an initiative demonstrating the nation’s dedication to the expansion of sustainable tourism.

Across the emirates, regional tourism authorities are rolling out tailored initiatives to advance green tourism. Abu Dhabi’s Department of Culture and Tourism emphasizes sustainable practices, offering carbon measurement systems and energy audits for hotels to ensure resource preservation and cultural heritage protection. Dubai, under its “Dubai Sustainable Tourism” initiative, mandates 19 sustainability criteria for hotels, enhancing the city’s global competitiveness while minimizing its ecological footprint.

Campaigns like “Dubai Can,” launched by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, encourage community involvement in sustainability by reducing single-use plastics and promoting resource conservation. These efforts complement Dubai’s broader eco-tourism initiatives, which include desert reserves, eco-friendly establishments, and public awareness programs.

Sharjah’s Commerce and Tourism Development Authority also prioritizes sustainability by encouraging responsible resource management within its tourism sector.
