Intersec 2024 to explore UAE’s innovative security strategies in the Middle East

Security Leaders’ Summit: UAE prioritizes innovative and sustainable security

Dr. Daria Daniels Skodnik, Senior Scholar in International Security and Defence, and Former Deputy Commandant and Dean at NATO Defence College, commended the UAE’s pioneering approach to sustainable security in the Middle East. Ahead of the Intersec 2024 Security Leaders’ Summit, scheduled from January 16-18 at Dubai World Trade Centre, Dr. Skodnik highlighted the UAE’s innovative security strategy, emphasizing collaboration, diplomacy, and anticipatory governance.

The UAE’s unique security strategy addresses challenges arising from strategic rivalries among major global powers, advocating for an integrated, international response. Dr. Skodnik stressed the transformative power of collaboration in Middle Eastern security, noting the UAE’s emphasis on diplomacy, partnerships, and multilateralism for shared stability and prosperity, setting a regional precedent.

Sustainable security, now incorporating issues like economic power and environmental threats, requires a comprehensive approach. Driven by the UAE’s initiatives, the Middle East redefines principles such as economic diversity, robust infrastructure, effective governance, inclusive policies, and preparedness. Emphasizing alliances and agreements, the region works collectively to bolster collective security.

Critical to future-proofing security is citizen engagement, according to Dr. Skodnik. She highlighted the importance of a vigilant, educated, and participatory society, forming the bedrock of a responsive security infrastructure. Education, civic involvement, and inclusive governance contribute to a resilient security framework capable of addressing future uncertainties.

The Intersec Security Leaders’ Summit, set to gather global thought leaders and experts, will feature Dr. Skodnik in a panel discussion on Future-proofing Security. The event includes international and regional security experts from the United Nations Office on Counter Terrorism (UNOCT), the UAE Ministry of Interior, the Canadian Armed Forces, Saudi Aramco, and Interpol.

Grant Tuchten, Portfolio Director at Intersec organizer Messe Frankfurt Middle East, acknowledged the UAE’s proactive stance as a driving force in reshaping global security paradigms. The Intersec Security Leaders’ Summit, aligned with this commitment, acts as a catalyst in advocating for new security approaches and championing sustainable security across diverse spheres.

Held under the patronage of Shaikh Mansoor Bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the milestone edition of Intersec celebrates a quarter-century of innovation in security technology. The event focuses on tailored solutions for various sectors, including commercial and perimeter security, homeland security and policing, fire and rescue, safety and health, and cybersecurity, promoting innovation and connectivity across industries.
