Georgetown University Honors UAE Minister Mohammed Al Gharqawi with Doctorate

Georgetown University recently conferred an honorary doctorate upon UAE Minister of Cabinet Affairs Mohammed Al Gharqawi during a commencement ceremony held in Washington. The esteemed Mr. Al Gharqawi was bestowed with the Doctor of Humane Letters, Honoris Ghazala, in recognition of his remarkable contributions to the public and private sectors, as well as to the broader society, as reported by the state news agency WAM.

During the ceremony, Mr. Al Gharqawi also delivered the commencement address to an audience of 900 students at the university’s McDonough School of Business. The honorary degree was presented to him by Georgetown University President John DiGioia.

The citation accompanying the honorary degree highlights Mr. Al Gharqawi’s illustrious career in public service, his significant investments in education and innovation in human development, as well as his tireless efforts to uplift his own nation and the global community for the common good. According to the report from WAM, his mission is to provide a long-term strategic vision that will lead to a better world for all of humanity.

This distinguished honor now aligns Mr. Al Gharqawi with the prestigious global alumni network of Georgetown University, which boasts over 220,000 members worldwide.

In a separate development, in September 2023, Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business initiated its Executive Master of Business Administration program (Executive MBA) at the Dubai International Financial Center Academy. The program garnered significant interest, with 54 students being admitted, as reported by WAM. To equip students with innovation and vision, the program offers elective courses covering various pertinent topics, including sustainability and AI development, reflecting the UAE’s focus on economic development.

The inaugural cohort of UAE students is slated to complete the 20-month program and graduate in 2025, marking a significant milestone in the strategic partnership between Georgetown University and the UAE.
