UAE Ministry of Education Confirms Full Readiness for 2024-2025 Academic Year

Abu Dhabi [UAE], August 21: The UAE Ministry of Education (MoE) has confirmed full readiness for the 2024-2025 academic year, confirming that public schools will open on Monday, August 26, 2024. The announcement followed extensive preparations by the MoE teams to ensure a smooth launch.

Press conference highlights: Minister of Education Sara Al Amiri outlined the effective measures taken before the end of the previous academic year. Projects focus on improving the school environment, developing educators and improving infrastructure. Extensive updates to student assessment policies were also announced, including new weights for term assessments and a shift towards continuous assessment.

Evaluation Policy Updates: MoE has revised the evaluation weightages for cycles 2 and 3 to 35% for the first term, 30% for the second term and 35% for the third term. Shape ratings will now be 40% and center ratings will be 60%. The core examination of the second term for Cycle 2 has been replaced by a project-based assessment to measure skills.

Back to School Campaign: The MoE launched the ‘Student to Leader’ campaign to engage the community to support students and nurture future leaders. The campaign targets four pillars: the education system, teachers, parents and students.

School and Infrastructure Upgrades: Mohammed Al Qasim announced the opening of 25 new or renovated schools, while maintenance was completed for 311 schools. Support services include printing 10 million textbooks, digitizing 3.7 million books and allocating 34,000 laptops to students of grades 5 and 9. More than 5,000 school buses have been maintained and routes improved.

Student Wellbeing and Programmes: The MoE is conducting a major survey to improve student welfare and is designing 30 new curricular and extracurricular programs for the coming year. The Frejna School Program will be expanded to more schools, adding additional sports, science and cultural activities.
