UAE weather prompts directive for private sector firms to enable remote work

Severe weather expected starting Friday evening

Friday, March 8 marked a significant call from the United Arab Emirates (UAE), urging private sector companies to enable remote work arrangements for employees in response to exceptional weather conditions. The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MOHRE) underscored the imperative of safeguarding worker safety during periods of weather fluctuations, emphasizing the need for private sector entities to exercise caution and implement requisite measures.

Encouraging compliance with directives from local authorities in each emirate regarding the unpredictable weather conditions, the circular from MOHRE stressed the importance of adopting remote work for eligible roles within private sector companies.

Concurrently, the UAE’s National Emergency, Crisis, and Disaster Management Authority (NCEMA) issued a warning alerting residents to brace for severe weather conditions anticipated over the weekend. The forecast encompassed potential thunderstorms, heavy rainfall, and the likelihood of occasional hailstorms, prompting heightened awareness and precautionary measures.

In a special broadcast on Thursday, March 7, authorities detailed the severity of the upcoming weather conditions, slated to unfold from Friday evening until Sunday. NCEMA’s advisory urged individuals to exercise caution, specifically emphasizing the avoidance of areas susceptible to flooding, such as seafronts and valleys, as well as locales prone to hailstorms.

“We call for caution, avoiding going to the sea, places where valleys flow, where water accumulates, and places where hail falls, and to follow instructions issued by the concerned authorities to avoid any unwanted events, wishing safety for everyone,” conveyed NCEMA on X.

Throughout the announcement, the emphasis remained on the collective responsibility of ensuring the safety and well-being of all residents in the face of the anticipated severe weather conditions. Authorities reiterated the importance of adhering to precautionary measures and official directives to mitigate potential risks and safeguard the community.
