UAE: Sharjah Charity Spends AED 84.3 Million on Aid Projects in H1 2024

Sharjah [UAE], August 25: Sharjah Foundation (SCI) has spent AED84.3 million on aid projects within the country in the first half of this year. This includes AED 6.7 million for monthly assistance, AED 31.2 million for seasonal programs and AED 39.6 million for lump sum assistance. Additional assistance was also provided to those who were deserving, according to a report by the Department of Specialization and Strategic Planning.

Abdullah Bin Khadim, Executive Director of Sharjah Charity International, stressed that internal aid carrying values ​​that positively impact beneficiaries by promoting happiness, life stability, family unity and loyalty is a priority for the association. He noted that the AED39.6 million includes AED15 million for medical assistance, benefiting 743 patients, especially those with life-threatening conditions such as viral hepatitis, cancer and kidney failure. This assistance covers essential treatments like liver transplants, heart surgeries, eye surgeries, caesarean sections, prosthetic surgeries and more. The Society relies on charities to support these critical needs.

He added that housing assistance worth AED8.3 million was provided to 906 beneficiaries. This assistance includes rehabilitation and maintenance of dilapidated houses and provision of essential equipment and furniture to each family based on field surveys and community survey reports. This assistance includes settlement of overdue rent for those who are unable to pay, as well as covering electricity and water bills that have been disconnected due to huge arrears and irregular payments due to their difficult living conditions.

A total of AED4.8 million in tuition assistance was provided to support students from low-income families, said the Managing Director of Sharjah Foundation. This assistance provided tuition fees and tablets to 680 students. In addition, the association assisted 1,100 persons in releasing them from penal and correctional facilities by working with the relevant authorities to pay off their debts.
