UAE Unveils Futuristic Vision for Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka-Kansai
Abu Dhabi, April 9:
The United Arab Emirates has officially revealed the concept and vision behind its national pavilion for Expo 2025 Osaka-Kansai, set to take place in Japan from April 13 to October 13, 2025. The announcement, which outlines the UAE’s strategic, cultural and future-focused approach to the World Expo, was made during a media briefing organised by the National Media Office.
The UAE Pavilion will be guided by the exciting theme “From Earth to Ether” and will be located in the Expo’s “Improving Life” thematic zone. The concept encapsulates the nation’s shift from its rich, traditional past to a future molded by ingenuity, creativity, and global cooperation. Through developments in a variety of industries, like as space exploration, sustainable technology, and healthcare, it symbolizes the UAE’s aspirations to enhance all facets of life, both conceptually and physically.
In addition to being a display for architecture, the Pavilion is meant to be a global platform for collaboration. It is a shining example of how a historically significant country is actively promoting a better future for the planet and beyond by inviting people from all around the world to engage with the values and goals of the United Arab Emirates.
The Expo’s significance as an ongoing process rather than a one-time event was emphasized by UAE Expo Commissioner and Minister of State Noura bint Mohammed Al Kaabi. “World Expos provide us with a special chance to showcase our national values, encourage sustainability, and enhance cross-cultural understanding,” she stated.
She further noted that the return to Japan, more than half a century after the UAE’s debut at Expo 1970 Osaka, is both a symbolic and strategic milestone.
A key highlight of the UAE’s presence at Expo 2025 will be the active involvement of youth. Twenty multilingual Japanese youth and 24 gifted Emirati youth ambassadors will represent the UAE Pavilion, according to Al Kaabi, making it a vibrant, welcoming experience for guests from around the world.
Shihab Al Faheem, the UAE Pavilion’s commissioner-general and ambassador to Japan, reiterated these remarks, characterizing the Pavilion as a representation of the UAE’s openness, tenacity, and commitment to promoting world harmony. He also emphasized the importance of the UAE-Japan relationship, pointing out that non-oil commerce between the two countries increased by 32% to AED 64 billion in 2024.
Shaikha Al Ketbi, the Pavilion’s creative director, and Mariam Al Memari, the head of the UAE Expo Office, have been named Deputy Commissioner Generals to guide the Pavilion’s development. Together with Al Faheem, they will ensure that the pavilion emphasizes creativity, teamwork and mutual progress to realize the story of the UAE.
The pavilion’s design is a collaborative fusion of Emirati heritage with Japanese craftsmanship. Inspired by the date palm, a symbol of life and tradition, the pavilion will feature a ninety-nine by sixteen-meter-high rachis pillars. This architectural marvel is a showcase of sustainability and cross-cultural innovation as it blends date palm waste with traditional Japanese woodworking techniques.
Over the six-month exhibition, the UAE Pavilion will host more than 40 engaging programs, including conversations on space, sustainable technology and health. Special attention will be paid to youth participation, with events and activities aimed at empowering future generations.
A key highlight of the pavilion will be the UAE National Day event, which promises high-level cultural performances and activities. This celebration, which showcases the UAE’s dynamic energy and leadership to the world, is predicted to be one of the most anticipated events at Expo 2025.
Major national organizations like ADNOC, PureHealth, Space42, and the Department of Culture and Tourism are among the UAE’s official partners for the Pavilion, all of which help to strengthen the country’s position internationally.
In essence, the UAE Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka-Kansai is more than a national exhibit—it’s an immersive experience that bridges the past and the future, rooted in tradition and driven by the shared vision of a sustainable, inclusive tomorrow.
