UAE Prioritizes Pediatric Health Advancements
Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister for Tolerance and Co-existence, emphasized the UAE’s dedication to advancing medical practices and ensuring excellent healthcare. He made this statement during the inauguration of the second Emirates Pediatric Bone Marrow Transplant Congress in Abu Dhabi. The two-day event, held in collaboration with global partners and the Mena Conference, gathered leading local and international experts from 23 countries to celebrate successful lifesaving interventions for children. The congress focused on advancements, innovative techniques, and best practices in pediatric hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) and cell therapy.
Under the guidance of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the UAE has become a global hub for healthcare excellence, Sheikh Nahyan noted. He commended Dr. Shamsheer Vayalil, founder and chairman of Burjeel Holdings, for establishing a world-class pediatric bone marrow transplant center in Abu Dhabi. This center has performed 30 lifesaving bone marrow transplants for children with various blood disorders, including leukemia, with a remarkable zero mortality rate.
Dr. Zainul Aabideen, head of pediatric hematology, oncology, and BMT, expressed dedication to providing healing and support for children facing devastating diseases. The conference served as an opportunity to share knowledge and experiences with experts worldwide, advancing pediatric transplantation care together. Prof. Rupert Handgretinger, a consultant in pediatric hematology, oncology, and BMT, emphasized creating an environment for active participation and knowledge-sharing to collectively enhance child health in the UAE and the region.
