UAE President and Australian Governor-General Discuss Strengthening Bilateral Ties
Abu Dhabi [UAE], April 28:
UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan received Sam Mostyn AC, Governor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia, in Abu Dhabi, where they discussed ways to enhance the strong and growing relationship between the UAE and Australia.
During their meeting at Qasr Al Shati, both leaders discussed ways to further collaboration, particularly in critical development sectors. They discussed ways to leverage on the momentum generated by the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) agreed between the two countries last year, with a focus on increasing collaboration and mutual growth.
Sheikh Mohamed warmly welcomed Governor-General Mostyn and her delegation, wishing Australia and its people continued progress and prosperity.
Their discussions also covered regional and international matters of mutual importance, with a special emphasis on recent developments in the Middle East. They emphasized the importance of maintaining regional peace and stability, and reaffirmed their shared commitment to supporting measures aimed at achieving a comprehensive, just and lasting peace.
Both sides stressed the critical need to resolve global conflicts through peaceful dialogue and diplomacy, stressing that long-term peace efforts contribute greatly to global wealth and human happiness.
President Sheikh Mohammed said that 2025 marks the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the UAE and Australia. He highlighted this milestone as an important opportunity to expand relations, forge new areas of cooperation, and reaffirm their commitment to investing in future-oriented industries such as trade, technology, sustainability, education, food security, culture and innovation.
The President emphasized the UAE’s approach of constructing bridges of collaboration that provide mutual benefits, reflecting the dynamic and developing nature of UAE-Australia relations.
Both sides reiterated the importance of maximizing the potential of the UAE-Australia Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement as a framework for enhancing economic ties, encouraging trade and investment, and creating new opportunities for businesses in both countries to collaborate, invest, and innovate together.
Governor-General Sam Mostyn expressed her appreciation to Sheikh Mohamed for the warm reception. She praised the significant progress achieved in the bilateral relationship and reaffirmed Australia’s determination to deepen ties in ways that serve the interests of both nations.
The meeting was attended by senior UAE officials, including Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler’s Representative in Al Dhafra Region; H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs; Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Chairman of the Presidential Court for Special Affairs; Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Tahnoun Al Nahyan, Adviser to the UAE President; Omar Sultan Al Olama, Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy, and Remote Work Applications; Ahmed bin Ali Al Sayegh, Minister of State; Ahmed Mubarak Al Mazrouei, Chairman of the President’s Office for Strategic Affairs and Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Office; along with members of the visiting Australian delegation.
