UAE Takes Part in Arab Ministers’ Meeting on Meteorology and Climate in Cairo

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) actively participated in a key meeting of the Council of Arab Ministers on meteorology and climate, which took place on April 18 at the League of Arab States’ General Secretariat in Cairo, Egypt.
Representatives from Arab meteorological organizations participated in the workshop, which focused on significant conversations related to regional weather patterns and climate issues.

Abdullah Ahmed Al Mandouz, Director-General of the National Meteorological Center and Head of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), led the UAE delegation and highlighted the region’s pressing issues, particularly the increase in temperatures above the global average. The most common and severe weather events that are increasing due to this warming trend include extreme heat waves, droughts and floods.

Al Mandous pointed to the severe water shortages in the region, which threaten not only public health but also economic stability. The United Nations has reported that natural disasters such as earthquakes, floods and droughts have caused devastating economic losses of around $60 billion in Arab countries. These disasters have also caused significant human deaths, highlighting the urgent need for coordinated action.

The meeting aimed to increase Arab cooperation in tackling climate issues, promote environmentally friendly behaviors, and strengthen the region’s ability to withstand the effects of climate change.
