UAE Observes World Autism Awareness Day, Promoting Inclusion and Support

ABU DHABI, 1st April 2025: On April 2, the UAE will celebrate World Autism Awareness Day, reinforcing its commitment to creating a more inclusive society for people on the autism spectrum.
This annual observance emphasizes the need to provide a supportive environment for people with autism to develop their talents, improve their quality of life, and integrate into society as valued members.

As part of its social development goal, the UAE actively promotes policies and activities that empower people with autism.

The Zayed Higher Organisation for People of Determination (ZHO) is at the forefront of these efforts, providing globally approved care and rehabilitation programs to 522 students with autism in Abu Dhabi.

Aisha Al Mansoori, Director of Abu Dhabi Autism Centre (affiliated with ZHO), emphasized the role of collective efforts from institutions and individuals in supporting people with autism. She highlighted the importance of awareness, particularly in schools, as the foundation for inclusion.

“Early intervention is key,” Al Mansoori stated in an interview with the Emirates News Agency (WAM). “The sooner autism is detected, the more effective education and skill development programs become. This helps young people improve their academic and social skills, facilitating integration.

ZHO has a person-centered approach, offering personalized training programs tailored to each student. These programs feature tailored learning programs and work visits, ensuring that students gain hands-on experience in environments that are suited to their abilities.

Beyond the UAE, ZHO has expanded its reach abroad through the Bridges of Hope program. This initiative trains and mentors mothers, guardians, and relatives of people with intellectual disabilities and autism in the Arab Republic of Egypt, thereby enhancing regional cooperation in autism awareness and assistance.

With ongoing efforts, the UAE continues to demonstrate its dedication to creating a society that values diversity, encourages inclusion, and fosters opportunities for individuals with autism.
