UAE Launches New Government Entity to Regulate Private Schools in RAK

UAE Establishes Rakdok to Regulate Private Schools in Ras Al Khaimah

The UAE Ministry of Education (MoE) has introduced a new regulatory entity, the Ras Al Khaimah Department of Knowledge (Rakdok), to oversee the private education sector in Ras Al Khaimah (RAK). This initiative aims to enhance educational standards and ensure alignment with international benchmarks.

Rakdok will gradually assume regulatory powers from MoE, with the transition expected to be completed by the end of the year. The collaboration between MoE and Rakdok, formalized through a memorandum of understanding, underscores their joint commitment to improving educational governance and fostering educational excellence across RAK.

The establishment of Rakdok comes at a crucial time for RAK’s education sector, marked by rapid growth and development. Abdul Rahman Al Naqbi, a member of Rakdok’s Board of Directors, highlighted the entity’s role in elevating educational standards and meeting the diverse needs of students, including those with special educational requirements.

Currently, RAK hosts 107 public and private schools offering diverse curricula to students. The emirate’s inclusion in UNESCO’s global network of learning cities reaffirms its dedication to promoting inclusive and high-quality education.

Rakdok operates through four main departments, each dedicated to specific aspects of educational oversight and enhancement:

  • Institutional Licensing and Compliance: Ensures adherence to regulatory standards and licensing requirements for educational institutions.
  • Operations Management and Customer Relations: Facilitates efficient school operations and maintains positive stakeholder relationships.
  • Quality Management and Evaluation: Monitors and evaluates educational quality to drive continuous improvement.
  • Strategies and Policies: Develops comprehensive strategies and policies to guide educational development and innovation.

These departments collaborate to establish a cohesive educational framework that supports student development and prepares them for future challenges.

MoE has committed to supporting Rakdok’s initiatives, aiming to attract leading international educational institutions to operate in RAK. Rabaa Ali Al Sumaiti, MoE’s undersecretary for performance improvement, emphasized the strategic importance of the collaboration in advancing educational excellence in the UAE.

“We are dedicated to fostering a productive partnership with Rakdok and local stakeholders to elevate the educational landscape in RAK,” Al Sumaiti stated. The collaboration aims to create an educational environment that meets global standards and equips students with the skills needed for success in a competitive global economy.

The establishment of Rakdok underscores the UAE’s proactive approach to enhancing educational governance and ensuring equitable access to quality education in Ras Al Khaimah. By empowering Rakdok to regulate private schools and implement innovative educational strategies, the UAE reinforces its commitment to educational excellence and prepares students for future opportunities.
