UAE Launches New 100-Dirham Banknote with Sustainable Features

UAE Introduces New 100-Dirham Polymer Banknote with Advanced Features

The UAE Central Bank has demonstrated its dedication to sustainability and innovation by introducing a new 100-dirham banknote that is composed of sturdy polymer. The UAE’s long-term economic and environmental goals are in line with this launch, which is the most recent addition to the third issuance of the national currency.

Modern security measures and printing methods, such as intaglio, embossing, and surface printing, are incorporated into the redesigned currency while preserving the recognizable red color gradients of the original note for simple identification. These upgrades not only strengthen security but also improve the currency’s appearance and usability.

Polymer banknotes are known for their durability, as they last twice as long as regular paper money. Due to their resistance to decay, they require fewer replacements, making them a more environmentally friendly choice. The UAE has demonstrated a forward-looking approach to financial sustainability by switching to a polymer-based currency.

The new 100 dirham note is expected to enter circulation on March 24, 2025, and will operate alongside the existing one, in order to facilitate a seamless transition in daily transactions.
