UAE Becomes First Country to Use AI-Powered Drones for Ramadan Moon Sighting

UAE moonsighting committee confirms Ramadan 2025 start

UAE Leads in AI-Powered Drones for Ramzan Moon Sighting

Revolutionizing Moon Sighting with AI-Driven Technology

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is breaking records by being the first nation to use drones driven by artificial intelligence (AI) to determine when Ramadan begins. The UAE Council for Fatwa, in partnership with national observatories and research centers, has adopted this state-of-the-art method to increase the accuracy and validity of moon sightings.

Combining AI with Traditional Methods
By combining traditional unaided observations with cutting-edge astronomical observatories, this project will guarantee an accurate confirmation of the crescent moon.
The AI-powered drones are designed to survey the skies, assess the atmosphere and provide up-to-date information to religious authorities.

The creative method is in line with Islamic beliefs, according to the Emirates News Agency (WAM), which places strong emphasis on visual confirmation of the crescent moon.
The drones will serve as an additional verification tool, improving the precision of Ramzan’s official start date.

Scientific Accuracy Meets Religious Tradition
The UAE has urged Muslims to observe the crescent moon on the evening of Friday, February 28, corresponding to 29 Shaban AH in the Umm Al Qura calendar. If the crescent is visible after Maghrib prayer, Ramzan will commence on March 1; otherwise, the fasting month will begin on March 2.

This groundbreaking use of AI-powered drones reflects the UAE’s commitment to integrating modern technology with cultural and religious practices, setting a precedent for other nations to follow in lunar observations.
