Dubai: RTA Launches Two New Marine Transport Lines for Dubai Creek Harbour
Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has rolled out two new marine transport lines specifically designed to serve the Dubai Creek Harbour area. This development is aimed at improving connectivity for both residents and tourists in the region, enhancing the overall public transportation network in Dubai.
Service Details and Schedule
The newly introduced marine transport services feature two distinct lines catering to different needs and schedules. The first line operates during the weekends, running between Dubai Creek Harbour and Dubai Festival City. This service is available on Saturdays and Sundays from 16:00 to 23:55, providing a convenient option for those visiting or residing in these areas during the weekend. The second line is available on weekdays, connecting Dubai Creek Harbour with Al Jaddaf Marine Transport Station and Al Khor Metro Station. This line runs from 07:30 to 10:50 in the morning and from 16:00 to 22:50 in the evening. The fare for each stop on these new lines is set at AED 2, making it an affordable choice for daily commuters and tourists alike. These transport lines have been specifically developed to enhance connectivity to key tourist attractions within the emirate, supporting the area’s growth and accessibility.
Collaboration Agreement
The implementation of these marine transport lines follows a significant collaboration agreement between the RTA and Emaar Properties. This partnership reflects a shared commitment to enhancing waterfront community projects, revitalizing tourist destinations, and supporting residential development in Dubai. Ahmed Bahrozyan, CEO of RTA’s Public Transport Agency, signed the agreement on behalf of RTA, while Ahmed Al Matrooshi, Executive Board Member of Emaar Properties, represented Emaar. This collaboration underscores the joint efforts to improve public transportation infrastructure and accommodate the increasing demands of the growing population in Dubai Creek Harbour and surrounding areas.
Impact and Growth
The introduction of these marine transport lines has proven to be highly successful in meeting public demand. Since their launch in August 2022, the lines initially served an average of 3,000 passengers per month. This number has since surged to approximately 30,000 passengers per month in the current year, indicating a remarkable 900 percent increase in usage. This substantial rise in demand has necessitated further enhancements to the infrastructure, including the provision of additional berths for various marine vessels and the establishment of ticket-selling kiosks to improve customer service. The collaboration with Emaar is expected to support these infrastructure upgrades, ensuring that the marine transport services continue to meet the needs of a growing number of users.
Future Plans and Vision
The expansion of these marine transport services is in line with RTA’s Marine Transport Master Plan 2020-2030. This strategic plan aims to address the evolving needs of developers and enhance marine transportation within the emirate. Ahmed Al Matrooshi highlighted the significance of public-private collaboration in the UAE, noting that such partnerships play a crucial role in achieving shared goals, boosting the economy, and improving the overall well-being of the community. The collaboration also strengthens Dubai’s position as a leading global destination for both residence and investment, contributing to the emirate’s growth and development.
Commitment to Improvement
RTA remains dedicated to enhancing public and tourist marine transportation services to better serve both residents and visitors. The authority is committed to continuing its collaboration with real estate developers, signing agreements that align with customer needs, and ensuring that Dubai’s transport infrastructure supports the emirate’s strategic objectives. This ongoing commitment aims to improve the quality of life in Dubai, making the emirate an even more attractive destination for residents and tourists alike.
