Turkish FM Fidan Meets UAE President to Discuss Regional Stability and Syria’s Future
The Foreign Ministry said that Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan held a meeting with the UAE President in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan received Fidan in the capital Abu Dhabi, the ministry said in a statement.
Fidan also met with Ali Mohammed Hammad Al Shamsi, Secretary-General of the UAE’s Supreme Council for National Security.
Turkish diplomatic sources said that the meeting focused on efforts to establish stability in the region.
The shared position on maintaining Syria’s stability, sovereignty and territorial integrity was reaffirmed.
The meeting also discussed measures to make Syria a safe, stable and prosperous country.
Both Turkey and the UAE pledged to support Syria’s transitional period following the ouster of Bashar al-Assad earlier this month.
Assad was toppled by opposition forces following a 12-day lightning offensive, marking one of the biggest turning points in the Middle East in generations, ending more than 50 years of brutal rule by the Assad family.
