UAE Cabinet Approves AI Curriculum for All School Levels Starting Next Academic Year

The implementation of artificial intelligence (AI) as a required subject in all government schools, from kindergarten through the twelfth grade, has received official approval from the UAE Cabinet. The move, which will come into effect next academic year, is in line with the country’s progressive goals of preparing the next generation for a technologically advanced future.

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, shared the announcement via his X account, describing it as a major step in equipping future generations with the essential skills needed to thrive in an ever-evolving world. He underlined that AI education will be integrated across the curriculum to foster a holistic technical understanding of AI and raise awareness of its ethical implications.

The Vice President expressed his gratitude for the Ministry of Education’s efforts in developing a comprehensive curriculum that addresses the risks and social implications of this revolutionary technology, in addition to its technical components, including data, algorithms and applications. He stressed that it is crucial for students to understand and be aware of this issue, as Artificial Intelligence (AI) will radically change how the world works.

Sheikh Mohammed underscored the need to equip children with new skills and abilities. This will ensure the continued progress and development of the UAE in the coming years, preparing them for a future that is very different from the one we live in today. He reaffirmed that the aim is to create future leaders who can lead and harness the potential of artificial intelligence for social progress.
