The new Covid-19 version was discovered, according to the Qatar Ministry of Public Health on Thursday. The ministry said that the instances were small and did not require hospitalization at this time. According to Qatar News Agency (QNA), the health ministry is actively observing the epidemiological situation relating to the new Covid-19 subvariant.
The World Health Organization (WHO) announced earlier this month that a new sub-variant of COVID-19 known as EG.5 has been identified in more than 50 countries, including the Gulf area. EG.5 is an offshoot of the highly infectious Omicron variety.
